On December 3, 1967, in Ashland, Nebraska, Officer Herbert Schirmer saw a strange light near the highway. Thinking it was a truck, he pulled up — but the object lifted into the sky and disappeared. Later, he logged the incident with a single line:
"Saw a flying saucer at the junction of highways 6 and 63. Believe it or not." He returned home with a pounding headache and a red welt on his neck. Two months later, he resigned from the force, plagued by symptoms he could not explain.
Under hypnosis, Schirmer revealed a different version of that night. He described being paralyzed, approached by humanoids, and asked two questions:
"Are you the watchman over this place?"
"Would you shoot at a space ship?"
He said no. They invited him aboard.
