On December 3, 1967, in Ashland, Nebraska, 22-year-old police officer Herbert Schirmer encountered something that changed his life forever. While responding to mysterious lights on a lonely stretch of highway, he watched an object silently lift off the ground and vanish into the sky. His official report? Simple. Unbelievable. “Saw a flying saucer... believe it or not.”
What followed was a cascade of unexplained symptoms, lost time, and eventual hypnotic regression. Under hypnosis, Schirmer described how non-human beings approached his cruiser, bathed it in green mist, and asked him a question that still echoes through the lore:
“Are you the watchman over this place?”
